The Question: Will Jesus Return at the Last Harvest Blood Red Moon of 2015?

The Answer from Pastor Paul Holt: The four blood red moons of 2014 and 2015 that fall on biblical feast days have captured the imagination of the Christian world and the non Christian world alike, and rightfully so as these signs in the heavens are meant to do. The Lord is always calling on His creation to repent and return to Him.

But are these four blood red moons a portent of Jesus’ second coming? Some teachers of prophecy say that this tetrad of blood moons will fulfill the end-times prophecies in Joel and Revelation.

The pattern was first uncovered by Pastor Mark Biltz of El Shaddai Ministries in Tacoma, Washington, who noticed a pattern of harvest blood red moons at various times in human history. He compared the data NASA calculated on several types of lunar events including eclipses along with solar events to include solar eclipses with the Hebrew biblical calendar.

This observation created great interest among Christian congregations world wide and many prophecy teachers have run with it. The full lunar eclipses  occur on the first day of Passover (Nisan 15) and the first day of Sukkot (the Feast of Tabernacles).

In addition to the two lunar eclipses of 2015, two solar eclipses will also occur. Similar lunar eclipses in back-to-back years have happened seven times since the time of Christ. Some of those have occurred in years of significance for the Jewish people, such as 1948 (when Israel was granted statehood) and 1967 (when the Six-Day War was fought).

“I will show wonders in the heavens and on the earth, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and dreadful day of the Lord.” -Joel 2:30–31

“I watched as he opened the sixth seal. There was a great earthquake. The sun turned black like sackcloth made of goat hair, the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars in the sky fell to earth, as figs drop from a fig tree when shaken by a strong wind. The heavens receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was removed from its place.” -Revelation 6:12

These passages of scripture are the most cited verses for the teachings on the blood red harvest moon, other passages that refer to the moon being “darkened” are Matthew 24:29 and Joel 2:10.

Mark Biltz has been very clear that his intention is not to set dates but to make the observation and warn the body of Jesus Christ that we should be vigilant. That simply means that if these signs are signaling the approach of our Lord, what manner of people ought we to be?

The bible is also clear that we should not set dates for the return of Jesus Christ, because only our heavenly Father knows when that will happen.

“About that day or hour no one knows” -Mark 13:32
